Stamp- Support 2D Animation by ThirdPotato Stamp- Support 2D Animation by ThirdPotato
To clarify: Just because it says "I support 2D" does not mean it says "3D sucks."
My beliefs: I prefer 2D to 3D because I don't believe the 3d medium has matured to the point of having a vivid style variety in America yet. I also believe that there's a time and place for different mediums.
Your beliefs: to each their own.

Used!

I personally like both 2D and 3D, but 2D is an overlooked masterpiece that needs more attention....

I agree. Traditional (REAL) animation is superior to CGI. Yes, sometimes you have to use CGI to do the really complicated stuff, (the stampede...the ballroom...the Cave of Wonders, etc) but you shouldn't use it unless you absolutely have to. Please check out my Disney art!

I enjoy both, but I personally like 2-D more, and it makes me sad that no major movies are done in 2-D anymore.

Probably pretty cool! Although it still worked really nicely in 3-D.

As someone who grew up with both mediums I believe that both do serve a purpose. Though there are times where a character's design doesn't work in 3D. Just look at the Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatbalss movies.

I prefer 2d animation too. CG animation doesn't suck but I don't think it will ever be able to achieve the same kind of fluid motions and expressiveness that 2d has (it has came close though)

I believe 2D and 3D have their place in the world. They both can work in their own ways that is unique to one another. Sure, both can imitate each other, but there's just this thing that both just can't fully emulate.

And the fact that 2D has been on such a downward slope has been rough on those of us who dream of working with the 2D style, but damn if I'm gonna give up. There's still worth in 2D that hasn't been found; something that all generations whether young or old can still enjoy. You just gotta get past those negative attitudes that declare it dead.

I am a bit rusty but I think they are asking either:

3D animations looks very beautiful, especially the realistic looking ones, but I still sort of prefer the good-old 2D animations. Too bad they are becoming less common these days...

And I support it. Traditionnal 2D can be true art and should NOT be viewed as "out of date" just because 3D exists.

As a 3D artist and animator I can see where you're coming from with that completely.

We're just reviewing our final projects at the moment, and one of the biggest problems is people just wanting to do Pixar. Really awesome designers and artists who could do something stylized and cool end up doing what's basically Monsters Inc, Toy Story or WALL-E.

Pixar is great, but people need to diversify.

I'd also say for some really brilliant 2D (and a few really nice 3D) shorts, look up the Gobelins film school on Youtube. I've been researching them for my Major Project. Damn...'Fenrir' and 'Chaman' blow me away every time.

I whole-heartedly agree, it's a shame 2D is being used less & less.

On a similar note: Did you know there's a chance "Wicked" could be made into a 2D film...It's a slim chance though, but it could happen if we get the word out. Check out some of the pitched storyboard

I grew up with 2D. I love it much more than i do 3D. Its something about it, especially when the frames are hand drawn. I like some 3dD, like Up, Bugs Life, Shrek. But 2D will always have a place in my heart <3

Wow, drama. As an animator that's worked in and watched excellent animations in most media (stop motion, traditional, flash animation, and 3D CG) I'd say while my personal tastes skew towards traditional, I see a place for all forms of animation expression. Certain stories, styles, and budgets demand a medium. I don't think "Robot Chicken" would be nearly as humorous or effective a cartoon if it didn't use actual action figures. "MLP: FiM" couldn't achieve the level of animation smoothness in the budget it was given without Flash. And "Rango" relied on texture and verisimilitude as a story telling device, it needed CG.
You choose your medium based on the constraints of your project and none of these methods involve simple button pressing to make it work. But I will say that traditional helps teach animation fundamentals in a way CG classes have a difficult time getting across. Weight and rhythm is something a lot simpler to think about when you're not fighting the automatic tweens of a computer. Hence why less effective CG work, like CG animals in live action movies, lack weight and presence. The best animation programs teach their students not just how to use Maya, but how to work with x-sheets and think carefully about timing too.

I agree; There's a medium for everything. I disagree with some of the comments on this stamp about how 3D sucks, and 2d foreverrrrrrr and crap like that. XDDD but I think that 3D is overused cuz suits don't like to make risks. I just wish there were more style variety for 3d movies in America. Other countries pull it off so much better.
